travel guide - perdido key

If you follow me on Instagram you know my recent trip was to Perdido Key, FL with Blake and his family. If you don't know where that is, it's a small beach in between Gulf Shores and Pensacola. We stayed at a small set of condos called Perdido Towers. Each with 10 floors and a shared private pool & walkway to the beach. We stayed in a penthouse, room 1001 east building. It has three nice sized bedrooms and baths. The penthouse is really spacious with great window and balcony views overlooking Perdido Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. We also had our own private elevator which we rarely had to wait for.

restaurants

Cotton's (steak & seafood): Honestly this is an average place to eat. Maybe some of their other food tastes better, but I can only vouch for the prime ribeye. It was either marinated in an au jus or worcestershire sauce (not my cup of tea.) The steak itself was pretty good but I didn't care for the marinade. Everything else, the rolls, salad, cheese sticks, & baked potato, were all good.

Franco's (Italian): The food here was SO delicious! For an appetizer get the mozzarella sticks, even though they aren't actually sticks. They're a rectangular shape, but probably the best mozzarella "sticks" I've ever had. For the entrée I got the cheese manicotti, it's a smaller dish (but after eating the appetizer, salad, & garlic knots... that's all I had room for hahah.) It's basically like lasagna noodles stuffed with cheese and covered in red sauce with mozzarella on top. I also tasted the chicken parmigiana and it was really yummy! (P.S. I wouldn't get the fettuccine alfredo... not the best.)

Cactus Cantina (Mexican): I read a google review before going here and it said their chips & queso are addictive and they were not lying! Their queso is on the runny side, but is still SO good. I also had chicken, beef, and cheese enchiladas, they were delicious as well. Everyone really enjoyed their meal. I would definitely say this was my favorite local restaurant.

Long Horn (steakhouse): I know this is a restaurant back home but I just have to say their macaroni was SO good (some reason better than the ones I've had in LA) and honestly I had the best steak probably EVER! I enjoyed the filet with parmesan (I think) crested cheese on top. If you like cheese, get it!! Most amazing steak ever.

The Yard (milkshakes/ice cream): I have to start by saying whoever came up with this name is a genius. This is a must go to when visiting OBA. (also it's a short walk away from Long Horn) Basically you walk in, grab a menu, and check off what you'd like. They have so many "specialty milkshakes" to choose from or you can make your own. (these come with a souvenir mason jar - pint or quart) You can also enjoy scoops or cones of ice cream with toppings. There are endless options and something here for everyone. I loved 'the sea turtle'; it was made with praline pecan and butter pecan ice cream & whipped cream on top drizzled with caramel and chocolate & waffle cone pieces around the rim & two chocolate pecan turtles. Blake got the 'cookie dough delicious' which was made with cookie dough ice cream topped with whipped cream & chocolate chips around the rim & a ball of eatable cookie dough, which I also tried and it was delicious. Just a warning: if you go during busy hours (we went around 7pm) be prepared to wait a while to place & receive your order.

shopping

There are mainly souvenir shops around this area, not too many clothing boutiques. There is one specific place that you could go to and grab a cute outfit, Ron Jon. I was kind of surprised when we walked in there because I thought it was just another souvenir shop, but I was wrong. Ron Jon has some really adorable clothes for both guys and girls. A local shop you should go to that has a little bit of everything & you're sure to find a nice gift for someone is St. Charles. (a walk away from Franco's & Cactus Cantina)

All these restaurants & shops are in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Overall it was an amazing vacation and I can't wait to go back next year. If you have any questions about the condo, Perdido Key, Gulf Shores, etc. don't hesitate to leave a comment or dm me on Instagram.

pack with me - beach edition

So I'm at the beach right now & thought I would share with y'all how I pack for beach trips. The first thing I do is make a list of everything I want to bring in my notes on my phone. Including clothes, shoes, swimsuits... just any and everything. Even the most obvious things like shampoo & body wash because if I don't there is a possibility I will forget. But small things like that you can easily pick up at the store but still.

So after I make a list, I get everything out of my closet & lay my outfits together. I've gotten the tip from other bloggers to take pictures of your outfits before packing, including shoes & accessories and make a new album in your phone so you can easily refer back to it. That takes a little longer to pack but it's still an idea. I pack my outfits together, sometimes with the accessories depending on what it is. But I also usually remember what necklace or earrings I want to wear with that outfit.

For the items I'm packing:

1. SHOES - I try to keep the amount of shoes I bring to a "minimum." I only bring one pair of tennis shoes cause I like to go workout even on vacation. Also a pair of cheap flip-flops to wear down to the beach; even though most of the time I walk barefoot, but just in case I decide to not burn the bottom of my feet.(: I bring a pair of nice sandals (which I usually wear on the ride there.) The last pairs of shoes I bring are 1-2 pairs of booties or wedges it just depends on the outfits I bring.

2. SWIMSUITS - Okay honestly I just pack every swimsuit I own because I can never decide which I want to wear and if I take one off in the middle of the day then it'll be cold etc. etc.

3. OUTFITS - I basically pack everything I own because I never know what I want to wear. I have to have options. That's why I use this duffel bag (expect mine is XL & I can't seem to find XL on VB site so I'm assuming they don't sell that size anymore which is really upsetting.) I like to pack 2-3 pj's and workout clothes for each day. My other outfits are for going out to eat or whatever else we might go do, so honestly I can't tell you much cause I just grab stuff.

4. COSMETICS - I pack all the essentials plus more probably. I put all my cosmetics, toiletries, blow dryer, sunscreen, etc. in a separate bag from my clothes (usually cause there is no room); I like to use a weekender. It has several pockets which helps. I use this bag for my face wash, face lotion, contacts, toothpaste, etc. I use a bag like this for toiletries so I can easily carry it into the bathroom. Sounds like a lot of bags but the two smaller ones fit great into the weekender.

5. ACCESSORIES - I don't bring too many accessories but when I do.. this case and this organizer are great for packing jewelry! If you're planning to bring a big/floppy hat with you, try putting maybe you're swimsuits or intimates in it, set it flat in your bag & then pack around it. (This probably works better with suitcases rather than a duffel bag!)

I know this was pretty long, but I tried to get all the information in.(: I hope this helped y'all and have safe travels this summer.

P.S. are there any packing hacks that you have that I didn't mention? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear some new ideas to try.

blog update

Hey guys! I just wanted to take a moment to update everyone on some changes. As some of you can probably tell I changed my blog name a little & I added things to my blog. I'm super excited because I officially own my blog (aka I bought a domain.) I have been wanting to do this for a while now, but was hesitant. I was thinking about a different name for my blog because I wanted it to represent me more. I love the name 'effortlessly chic' but knew it was rather cliché. I also didn't want to completely get rid of the name because I really like the meaning behind it. So after some trial and error I came up with 'effortlessly southern chic.'

I'm still adding things to my blog & making updates so it's exactly how I want. I've been learning so much along the way & it's a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work. Thank you all for the support & I hope to continue to put out content y'all like to read.

P.S. don't ever hesitate to leave a question in the comments or email me or dm me on Instagram with questions. Would also love to hear some ideas y'all would like me to post about! (you can post anonymous comments if you don't want me or someone else to know who posted it, just an fyi)

concert outfit

Happy Hump Day guys! We are half way through the week already.. it needs to slow down lol.
This past weekend Blake (my boyfriend) and I went to a Jon Pardi concert. And if you don't know who that is, he is a country singer. So if you like country music go check him out because he is awesome and he's an awesome performer as well & I will definitely go see him again!

So for my outfit: here are my shoes and the skort is from shoppriceless, but I just saw that it is out of stock right now and I'm very sad because I was so excited to share it with y'all. I'm hoping it will come back in stock soon. Until then I have linked some similar ones below.

Below are some similar sandals because the ones I have on are running low in size.
